Christmas Trees

Fraser fir is the variety that holds its needles longest in a warm room, which matters more when a tree has travelled. Heights are measured from the base of the trunk to the tip; the chart below shows each one next to an average adult.

Water it the day it arrives

Saw half an inch off the bottom of the trunk before the tree goes into the stand. The cut end seals with sap within a few hours of being cut, and a fresh cut reopens it.

Keep it away from heat

Radiators, heating vents, fireplaces and direct sun all dry a tree out faster than it can drink. A cooler corner of the room will add days to how long it looks good.
